Occupational Therapist
Jessica (Jessi) is an AHPRA-registered Occupational Therapist with extensive experience working within the community disability sector, supporting adults with complex physical, cognitive and functional needs, including people living with acquired brain injury (ABI), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI).
Experience
Jessi has experience working across both the NDIS and iCare systems and provides occupational therapy assessment and intervention across a broad range of areas, including functional assessments, assistive technology trial and prescription, home modifications, mobility and transfers, personal and domestic activities, community access and participation, transport training, development and review of care programs, risk management, and training and support for families and support workers. Jessi is also FIM and CANS trained.
Approach
Jessi’s approach to occupational therapy focuses on identifying practical, individualised solutions that enhance safety, independence and meaningful participation in everyday life. She recognises that effective intervention extends beyond a person’s diagnosis or functional abilities and must consider their individual goals, preferences, home and community environments, support networks, lifestyle and personal circumstances.
Central to Jessi’s practice is supporting each person’s autonomy, choice and control. She believes clients should be active participants in decisions about their supports, equipment, environments and daily lives, and works alongside each person to develop recommendations that reflect what is important to them while appropriately considering safety, dignity and risk.
Collaboration is an important part of Jessi’s approach. She values building positive and respectful professional relationships with clients and their families, support coordinators, case managers, support workers and other members of the treating team. By working collaboratively, Jessi aims to develop recommendations and strategies that are practical, achievable and able to adapt as a person’s circumstances, goals and support needs change over time.
Jessi particularly enjoys the problem-solving nature of community occupational therapy. She is passionate about working through complex situations, understanding the barriers affecting a person’s independence and participation, and finding creative, practical solutions that can be successfully implemented within their real-world environment. Her goal is to provide occupational therapy that is not only clinically appropriate, but genuinely useful and meaningful to the person and the life they want to lead.
